Jack's High Kicking Taekwondo Party!

A quick bite to eat in between the martial arts action!

The date: Saturday 30th June 2007. The Venue: Fighting Fit Gym. The Occasion: Jack Hamilton's Birthday!! The weather outside was lousy, but inside the atmosphere was warm and friendly, with all Jack's friends ready for a good time. The party began with a brief introduction to Taekwondo by Jo and Al, followed quickly by the kids' first test - punching through layers of newspaper to earn their Taekwondo "Headbands". First up was Jack, who showed off his skill as a Taekwondo practitioner by earning his headband off one single punch and kick - he completed the task on his first attempt! A mist and flurry of Ap Jireugi's followed, leaving sheets of torn newspaper scattered across the floor. First test passed!

Next up: Test No. 2: Agility training to earn their swords. Each student took their turn to face up to Jo and Al, weilding the finest foam swords straight from ancient Korea. Jumps and ducks followed, with all students again passing with flying colours and no chopped off legs! With all swords and headbands presented, the real training and fun could begin - sword fighting was followed by ground grappling and rolling tag, before all the children sat down for food Korean Style. Chopsticks were the order of the day, used to energise the kids with their healthy "Ninja Nourishment" kindly provided by Jack's mum Ruth. (For those who have never experienced it, trying to eat party food with chopsticks is extremely entertaining!)

After the birthday tea, it was back to the games. All the kids demonstrated their potential Korean ninja skills in the "Ninja Stealth" and "Ninja Raiders" games, where the evaded sword attacks to obtain the treasure of party bags. Never complete without the bumps, Jack received his fair share from all his friends, finishing the day on a high point. Overall, a great day had by all. Happy Birthday Jack!
